Alien: Covenant Trailer Reaction Mashups. absolutely shitty movie. While Prometheus was a near perfect film, Alien Covenant was an absolute turd! Really not what I was expecting. No story line just blood and gore. Shame on you Ridley Scott! Fine as a mellow horror type movie but well below the bar for Aliens. Expect moronic decisions at every turn and predictable and shallow story line. Worth it see in theaters for the sounds system but don't get your hopes up for any depth or quality in character develop or dialogue.

An entertaining and satisfactory tape for the fans of the franchise but that does not prevent that it is a tape full of clichés and very predictable although it would also emphasize the performances of the cast mainly Fassbender. It definitely returned me to the exciting and scary action of the original Alien and its sequel, Aliens. It also answered many of the questions that Prometheus left behind, and it makes a nice little bridge towards the original classic. While the acting is fine, the story line is incomplete (having to go online to learn what happened after Prometheus) for the set up to Covenant which itself adds more confusion and screws up the timeline sequence even more. Both Prometheus and Covenant are hot messes of confusion and poor story thought through. The next (and hopefully final) Alien installment needs to close the loop with the original Alien and let us hope Mr. Ridley Scott puts together a better group of writers.
Alien: Covenant was directed by Ridley Scott (Gladiator, The Martian) and serves as a sequel to Prometheus and part of a prequel series to the Alien franchise. When a colony ship takes a detour to a remote planet, they don't find what they were looking for.
I didn't care much for Prometheus. The butting heads between Scott and the studio heads resulted in a mixed bag of disappointment. However, Alien: Covenant is better in every aspect. Ridley Scott has always been good at creating shots, and there are some fantastic sequences in his sequel - that shower scene shown in the previews did not disappoint! Katherine Waterson and Danny McBride gave solid performances as well, but the standout of this film is Michael Fassbender. Having to play two distinct roles is hard, but I found the best moments of this movie to be when Fassbender was having a conversation between both of his characters.
The biggest flaw of this movie is the size of the cast. At the beginning of the film, there are over a dozen scientists setting off on this colonization adventure. A few of them, like Waterson and McBride, are fleshed-out and have character. The rest, however, only served as bodies to kill off by the xenomorph in brutal fashion. As great as the visuals were in these instances, there was no tension when a death would occur because it was foreshadowed in an all-too-familiar way. NOTHING GOOD HAPPENS WHEN YOU LEAVE THE GROUP!
Overall, I had a fun time watching Alien: Covenant. While it isn't a great movie, it was a bright spot in what turned out to be a let-down of a month in May. Fans of the franchise or space-horror movies should check this one out while it's in theaters!
Wish I would have waited for DVD or Stream instead of wasting my money. The end of Prometheus moved in a direction I was curious about. Yes, let's go find that advanced alien civilization that created humans and seeks information. Two minutes of that advanced alien civilization before the inferior human built Android killed them all. This was a complete disappointment! So many promising directions this movie could have explored but it's the same movie that you have seen the last 20 years.
Before I start this review, I would like to give a fair notice to those reading and say that I am going to explain why this film is bad and infuriating in the tamest and fair way possible, without divulging too much into the 'fanboy' mindset of why it's bad. Because I'll be honest and upfront, I absolutely love and adore the Alien franchise Ok? I do. I get influence from the first two films than any other franchise or film to date, and Ridley Scott is a filmmaker I highly respect from Blade Runner to Gladiator and more recently his 2014 film: The Martian. Hell, even despite all the faults I had with Prometheus, I can admire what Scott and the hack need writer David Lindelof were trying to go for and admire the self-contained story being attempted. But describing this film though...oh boy, it's gonna be a long rant so bare with me as I explain why.
Ok so...the "true prequel" to Alien (if you even wanna call it that as it's not even remotely close), titled 'Alien: Covenant' is finally out. And after being hugely disappointed after Prometheus and uninterested by any of the marketing for this film, I wasn't going into it with too many high expectations. But, that didn't mean I was willing to give it a chance. And after watching, I can confirm I was right to not give it a chance. Because 'Alien: Covenant' is not only a sad excuse for an Alien prequel but a sad excuse for a horror film. And was actually quite possibly the most infuriating experiences I've had watching a movie since 'Suicide Squad'. Yeah...it was just, that bad.
And
while I can certainly say the film does very little things decently such as: Having a at least decently acted cast, the 'David' character storyline having it's shining moments time to time, and it's shot at least really well given it's a Ridley Scott production and having Water Hill as producer again, that is sadly where all my compliments stop because the rest is just nothing but negatives. A poorly constructed and completely rehashed story that never earns it or is even bothered to be done cleverly with, weak as hell characters that offer nothing to them but to be used as slapstick fodder and rip-offs of other characters we've seen but with nothing interesting to offer surprisingly dated and awful special effects despite well introverted sets, the Alien being forced in there and offering nothing to enhance the story but remind people that 'Alien' existed and it was well respected for a reason, new ideas that are never explored enough, an ending so over the top and frustrating that I can't believe it bothered trying to end on a cliffhanger, and so many more issues that without referencing spoilers or going off on a tangent I'm just gonna leave off here.
So overall, Alien: Covenant didn't just infuriate me as a fan, but as someone that tries to fairly judge films on their own merits, it failed even at that. And I have to sadly and honestly say that Ridley Scott has officially killed this franchise for me, and now has my reassurance that he killed it and he approved of all of this to happen. I'm glad critics and some audiences enjoyed this entry and I give more power to you, but this just straight up pissed me off to no end and has now officially killed my interest for any sequels to come. And I am heartbroken to say this.
Prometheus had a great thing going, in giving these horrifying sequences of events a reason to be watched other than a perverted desire to see people being brutally killed. It was a mix of Star Gate and Alien, and while it was not perfect, it was new and interesting.
Sadly, some of the 'fans' did not like it. I guess they just wanted another Alien movie. And that's what they got, now. While I am not happy with the scrapping of the Prometheus storyline, I don't mean to /complain/. At this point, I just hope Ridley Scott is content with his own work. It's unfortunate that the artist had to abandon his own vision to appease his customers. I wouldn't wish him to do it again.
That said, it is technically well made. It is also a tragedy, more-so than any Alien film before it. It still does tread (lightly) on some deeper themes, and its value as entertainment will depend on its direct sequel; What we have in this movie is the first two acts of a three-act play.
